The Founder
Karman Kekana.
Karman Kekana founded Foundation-1 in 2026 with a single conviction: South Africa’s agricultural operators should not have to choose between paying compounding grid tariffs and pulling capital out of production, processing, packing or distribution to escape them. By structuring institutional funding, engineering and delivery into one migration model, he built Foundation-1 to own the infrastructure so that operators can simply switch and save.
Under his leadership, Foundation-1 has assembled an ecosystem spanning funded on-site solar, grid-delivered clean energy and the Selemo Initiative, its agriculture-first migration programme, backed by institutional partners including Nedbank. He secured the 56MW Free State power purchase agreement that underwrites Phase 1 of Lumen, anchoring Foundation-1’s grid-delivered clean-energy supply. His focus remains the same as day one: moving the Republic’s productive economy, starting with agriculture, onto energy infrastructure built for its next century.
